Well if your reading this I'm guessing that you are considering moving to Canada …great choice!

Hi My name is Tom Murray and I'm from Mauchline in Scotland. My wife (Rachel) and I decided to immigrate to Canada during the Summer of 2003.

Our friends had already immigrated to Canada.  Taking their advice we decided to hire the services of a professional. Now being Scottish I am naturally suspicious of:

1. Any business that asks for money up front.
2. and "guarantees" success... that’s just not how life works.

I must have been on dozens of websites and contacted at least ten firms asking for details. Out of the firms that did manage to reply next day none would help me with even the most basic questions without a fee. The whole experience of spending literally days on the internet, asking for advice, not receiving any and in some cases receiving advice I knew to be wrong made me so fed up I decided to process the application myself.

We even attended seminars in Glasgow held by companies that took £45.00 for telling us things that you can obtain from Avatar at the press of a button on their web page

Is this ringing any bells with anyone?

Now I am only going to give the reader two bits of advice.

1. DO NOT PROCESS THE APPLICATION YOURSELF.
I spent three months putting our application together. I honestly thought our application was bullet proof. We just scraped in on points, but still met the requirement. I was two days away from posting the application away when I happened upon the Avatar web page. What's this? a company that does not ask for the whole fee up front, and has a fee that is reasonable.

(I had a British Columbia based lawyer ask for $6,700 USD and a UK based consultant ask for £3500 GBP).

After calling Russ we decided to send our application to him "just to be safe and have it checked over". Russ managed to show us where we had missed some points and helped raise our score by 9%. More importantly he discovered some serious flaws in the application. These would have almost certainly have resulted in our application failing and the loss of our fees.

Through out the preparation of the application Russ, Ryan and Del always encouraged us to the point where we stopped thinking of them as businessmen and started thinking of them as friends. Emails were often followed up by phone calls despite the 8 hour time difference and the whole process was just so reassuring and pain free that I must have been mad to think of going it alone. 12 weeks later we had our file number, no problems.
 

To be honest my family and I were a little discouraged as the times at the CIC office just seemed to be going up and up. According to the website, on March 2006 they were processing 80% of cases in 43 months.

So you can imagine we were stunned and delighted when Russ called us to say we had to go for our medicals and more importantly had an Interview Waiver in only 20 months.

We were absolutely astounded it took this quick and I'm sure that it was entirely down to Russ and his team's enthusiasm, drive and professionalism.

Our case was processed in 50% less time than we thought, You can't ask for more than that!! Russ will also put you in touch with people (like me) who have gone through the experience, so you see we are real and do exist (lol)

I guess my second bit of advice is that before you consider signing up with another immigration company call or email Russ, Ryan or Del. Put them to the test. I don't think you will be disappointed. My wife and I dreamed of going to Canada for many a year, Avatar caught those dreams and turned them into reality, I like to think of them as our Dreamcatchers.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel:
A Bangladeshi’s journey to Canada

Although I was born an American citizen, my husband was born in Bangladesh and entered the United States in January of 1994 on a student visa.

With all the restrictions and alarm over immigrants in the U S, particularly those with certain origins, religious beliefs and ethnic backgrounds since 9-11, immigration for certain groups became next to impossible.

The fact that my Husband was a Muslim did not help either. As a result, my husband was not allowed to stay in the U S.

My husband is well educated, having completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Dhaka University in Bangladesh and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration and World Economics from Indiana University in the USA. He is very experienced and has worked for several large companies in the States. He has a reputation of being an excellent Business Manager and Accountant.

In spite of thousands of dollars spent, and many forms filed with fees paid, the US immigration department did not recognize his marriage to me or my petition for change of residency on his behalf.

You cannot imagine what the last few years were like, fearing every moment that at some point immigration officers or police would come and take my husband away. We were hearing things like that in the media on a daily basis. It was a fear that my daughter and I lived with for three years.

I had visited Canada years before, when my sister and brother-in-law moved to Fort St. John, British Columbia. I fell in love with BC.

Having already been through so much trouble and having found out the hard way that the immigration process is difficult with so many forms to fill out; we knew that we had to obtain help.

Finding a good representative who is knowledgeable and well versed in immigration law and procedure is key to success.

We went through many lists of possible Canadian Immigration companies. We even called quite a few. We were concerned about our case being handled well and by people we could trust. We had already lost thousands of dollars. We did not want to waste any more time or money.

After going through quite a few possibilities on our three page list and a lot of praying, we went back to the list and called AI.

What a welcome relief that was to us. Even our landlords and all the extended visitors that come to see us from time to time have been helpful and we have made many new friends.

My husband is a new man. He is enjoying the challenge of working in this new job and is confident that the future is definitely much brighter. In a year or two we are planning on opening our own business and developing new relationships with the wonderful people of the area. It is good to see him really smile and laugh again. My daughter is so excited. She has been studying Canada for two years now via the internet and books from the library.  Although she was nervous about school and meeting new kids, she has found acceptance and great new courses to keep her happy. She can hardly wait to learn Japanese and French along with developing her art and musical talents. Seeing my family happy is a wonderful and profound gift. God has been watching out for us and has heaped many blessings on our family.

We love Canada. Vancouver is so beautiful, with so many possibilities. It is a dream, a vision and the light at the end of a very long tunnel.

My wife and I have wanted to become a part of Canada via Immigration for many years but the process seemed to be quite complex... Russell and Del were wonderful in accomplishing what I thought was an impossible task. I applied for Landed Immigrant Status almost a year ago and through the persistence and dedication of the staff at AI, the paperwork has been accepted and I now have a Permanent Resident Card allowing me to live in Canada. I married a Canadian citizen and thought the process would be simple with a minimum of bureaucracy.
