Vancouver Ranked 'Best City' to Live In
Australia, Canada and Switzerland all top survey by The Economist
Vancouver Canada
Population: 560,000
Average Temp. : 3° C to 18° C
The city is surrounded by water and mountains and it has more than 180
parks.
Thanks to their low crime rates, lack of terrorist threats, and highly
developed infrastructures, some Canadian cities are among the best in
the world.
Of these, Vancouver tops them all.
This is the conclusion of the Investigation Centre of the British
weekly, The Economist. As a result, Canada, Australia and Switzerland
have 9 of the 10 best cities in the world.
The survey measured five aspects: infrastructure, education, health,
culture and environment.
In the top 10, are two more Canadian cities: Toronto and Calgary, both in
fifth place. Four of Australia's cities are included in the list:
Melbourne (2), Perth (5), Adelaide (5) and Sydney (5). Switzerland has two
places with Geneva (2) and Zurich (5), while Austria has second place with
Vienna.
With a population of approximately 600,000 people, Vancouver is the
biggest city in the province of British Columbia and the third largest in
Canada.
Known as a "cultural capital" due to its universities, the survey
pointed out that its low crime rate gave it a high ranking. Placed on the
Pacific Canadian coast, Vancouver is close to the American-Canadian border
and the city of Seattle. However, its crime rate is quite low compared to
the U.S.
Good weather
Another important factor was Vancouver's weather, which has one of the
mildest in Canada. Pacific beaches are just a couple of minutes from
downtown and ski hills only about 30 minutes away.
Besides, there are mountains, rivers, and lakes around the city and it
boasts one of the better transport systems in the world.
As the main Canadian city of the Pacific, Vancouver claims to be the
final destination for many transcontinental highways and railways. It's
also one of the biggest industrial cities.
